Blog Reflection 2 - November 3, 2025
In the past three weeks, I completed the initial draft of my story assignment for class. Tracking down sources for this story was more difficult than stories I wrote for past journalism classes. This has to do with a number of factors, including the subject of the story, the locations of the main actors in the story, and the use of technology in contacting sources.
The subject of the story made finding sources a challenge because community supported agriculture is not a very well known topic and while San Diego has a large agricultural presence, not every farm offers CSA subscriptions. The next challenge I ran into was that the locations of farms were often far from campus.  Without a car at my disposal, I was only able to do a one in-person interview which was an hour away in Valley Center, California, at Stehly Farms Organics. The final challenge I had was contacting sources through emails on their websites. I sent eight emails and did not receive any replies which made me rethink the way I should be contacting sources.

Blog Post 1 - October 6, 2025
During the past week in class we discussed digital journalism techniques, looking at audio, video, livestream, and photojournalism. Some of these areas aren't my expertise or interests yet it was still useful to hear how to use the tools related to those fields. When we talked about audio I learned to incorporate natural sounds, describing observations, and to talk in a narrative tone so it is easier to weave from source to source. In photojournalism I learned the importance of capturing action and emotion in the photos you are taking.
Video is the area that I have the most experience and interest in, but still learned much more that I can apply to my story because I plan to use video for my multimedia component. Learning about how to apply the correct lead room and head room is something that I was not completely sure about before class and now feel confidently applying it. I also took notice of using a story board and I think that working diligently on that can give me a good base so that I am ready to film when the time comes.
